There will be no horse or dog races in 2011 at Anthony Downs. The last race in 2009 ended a 105 year tradition.
We will still have the Annual KC BBQ Society Cookoff on July 15-16, 2011. Categories will include: Chicken, Ribs, Porkbutt, Brisket, Sausage, and Kids-Q. This is a KCBS Sanctioned event and a State Qualifier. Note: The Sausage Category is not required - it does not count towards Grand Champion or for State Qualifier. We hope to have a big crowd out for the food!
The Anthony Fair Association was unable to raise the funds required to race. If a gaming bill is passed and enacted, some of the larger tracks such as Wichita Greyhound Park in Wichita, KS and The Woodlands in Kansas City could reopen and the revenue from those tracks would help fund smaller tracks such as ours.
